New Music: Grooveman Spot - 'Too Awakening'

I'm in the midst of a jazz upswing of sorts. Nowadays, weekend play lists at mine feature a rising tide of abstract noodlings, which smoothes out the rough edges of the hip hop and electronic business that's centre stage during the week.

But thanks to one of Japan's finest musical exports - Grooveman Spot of Jazzy Sport fame - this week's play list combines the best of both worlds. And it's only one song. Kind of.


Actually, that's stretching the truth; 'Too Awakening' is more like a collection of jazz-inspired hip hop beats lovingly concocted by the Grooveman and stitched together into a mini-set of sorts.

It's twenty four minutes of sweet, sweet jazzy business that will have your head nodding from go to whoa. There's some familiar breaks, and some new ones thrown in to the pot too - but it's all quality. Well played, GSM.

Hmmm, what else can I tell you about 'Too Awakening'? Not much, really. Info is scarce: 'Too Awakening' is currently stream-only, and there's no apparent release in sight. But I do know it'll be on repeat at my house this Sunday, and that some serious beard stroking will be going down. Ohhhhh yes.
