Mix Tape: Joey Bada$$ - 1999

A few weeks back, I noticed a mix tape by the name of 1999 floating around the interwebs which I thought looked kinda cool.

If you're familiar with this blog, you'll know my hip hop heart rests firmly a few decades back from the present.

So what did I do with 1999 , the handiwork of a young gent by the name of Joey Bada$$? Nothing. I forgot to check it out. Do dad's get baby brain? Can I claim that as an excuse?

But after a little needle from my main man in London Town (big ups to the H-Bomb), I downloaded 1999. And I loved it. And then forgot to post it. I'm definitely claiming dad baby brain. There can be no other excuse.

1999 is quality in every sense. The beats? Quality. He's borrowed from the likes of Lord Finesse, MF Doom, Knxwledge and Dilla, as well as calling on contributions from his Pro-Era crew mates (most of whom currently go to high school in Brooklyn... I feel old)

The lyrics? Well, they're quality too. Young Joey (he is 17... he is half my age... I feel old[er]) can handle a mic with no problems, dropping rhymes that are easy on the ears.

The whole thing is bathed in a golden age, New York City glow. And understand me when I say this is by no means a bad thing. Check out 'World Domination' and a video fom 1999 below, or download the whole mix tape here.
